wow, what a PR blunder. this wasn't/isn't about stealing as some of the thumbs down seem to be suggesting is the case; its that creative crippled their soundcard in order to push customers to buy newer hardware. You are more that welcome to argue that this is "just business", but this is heinous for any person remotely interested in their products working efficiently and properly. Daniel_k wasn't making money directly from the product, but receiving donations for his time spent. I used to love creative but, as any current owner knows, the software and compatibility issues have been unresolved for so long. I stuck by Creative because I really did believe that their product was exceptional and that the development team cared about the products they were releasing. I wrote off bugs and issues with the faith that they would be resolved BY CREATIVE. A customer, regardless of process, fixed the problems and then shared that solution... a solution that actually brings profit to the company because it still maintains a logical demand for the product. Instead of embracing this, the company removed the solution. Yes eventually the package was re-released, which should dissuade naysayers claiming that creative was right when they themselves have reversed their actions in a paltry attempt to satisfy the community. The outrage was and is completely justified. It should be a permanent reminder on how businesses need to always consider the needs/demands of the customers. Within this digital age, a lack of flexibility and adaptation is simply crippling and stupid.
